Ready Or Not Casinos Come To The Empire State
New York State lawmakers agreed on Wednesday, March 15, 2012 to legalize casino gaming. The first of two constitutional amendments needed has been passed, and up to seven new casinos will be allowed to operate in New York.
While the idea of allowing casinos in New York has been debated for over a decade, the decision has finally been made.
The Assembly and Senate will now begin the process of amending the state constitution. This will be voted on and ratified by the people, which could easily take into 2013.
BUT upstate NY will be ready. The Saratoga Casino and Raceway recently announced plans for a major expansion and and there has even been talk of a casino opening in the village of Lake George.
Whether you are for or against casinos in the Capital Region, there is no escaping the fact that legalizing casinos has the potential to create thousands of jobs, while keeping the tourism and revenue that accompany gaming in New York state.
This could could be great news for Saratoga’s economy! Weigh in! What do you think? Concerned? Excited?
