The Saratoga Casino and Raceway will be increasing their purses after seeing positive results in revenue. The 2012 season will have the highest harness racing purses ever in the 71-year history of the track.
“We are extremely pleased to offer horsemen the opportunity to earn more money while competing at our racetrack,” said John Matarazzo, Director of Racing Operations at Saratoga Casino and Raceway. “The increased purses will contribute to our on-going efforts to offer a top quality racing product for our fans.”
This adjustment in purses will raise the overnight purse distribution to $100,000 per program, the highest purse amount in the track’s history.
Harness racing horses in the Open Division will now race for $21,000. $10,000 Claimers will race for $8,600, while Maidens and $5,000 Claimers will race for $5,200 and $4,500, respectively.
The harness track’s 2012 race season runs through December 15, with four days of racing every week.
