Blast off with SPAC’s Out of this World Festival this summer! Over the course of two weeks, you can listen to some of the best and brightest individuals as they discuss the fascinating intersections between art and the cosmos. Whether it’s music, literature, or painting, it seems that space may provide some of the best artistic inspiration yet.
In August, SPAC will be launching its first ever speakers series, discussing the intersection between art and space. Throughout the festival, attendees will hear from renowned speakers Nicole Stott, Dava Sobel, Diane Ackerman, and Stephon Alexander, and experience space through virtual reality, late-night stargazing, and other festival features.

August 2nd, 8p.m. – “eARTh from Space” with Nicole Stott
Hear Nicole Stott, the first astronaut to paint a watercolor in space, discuss her experience and perspective about space as artistic inspiration.
August 3rd, 6p.m. – Pre-Show Festival on the SPAC Lawn
Join festival-goers for a pre-show exhibit featuring a “Walk through the Planets,” interactive science activities, VR space expeditions, a Starlab Planetarium and more!
August 3rd, 8p.m. – An HD Odyssey performed by The Philadelphia Orchestra
Experience an immersive music experience with The Philadelphia Orchestra and enjoy a post-concert star party around the reflecting pool.
August 8th, 1p.m. – Meet the Music: Albert and Wolfgang with The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center
Relax and enjoy this family concert that harmonizes the works of Einstein and Mozart. Children and adults alike will be amazed as “Einstein” takes the stage to conduct a brilliant Mozart masterpiece.
August 9th, 8p.m. – “Earth and Other Worlds” with Dava Sobel and Diane Ackerman
Join famous science writers, Dava Sobel (author of Galileo’s Daughter and The Planets) and Diane Ackerman (author of The Human Age and The Zookeeper’s Wife), for their discussion on nature, science, and art.
August 11th, 6p.m. – Pre-Show Festival on SPAC Lawn
Attend the second day of pre-show exhibits, featuring “Ask an Astronomer” booth, VR space expeditions, and other fun activities!
August 11th, 8p.m. – Star Wars: A New Hope by The Philadelphia Orchestra
Listen to the soundtrack of Star Wars: A New Hope live in concert. Afterwards, view the Perseid meteor shower around the reflecting pool.
August 16th, 8p.m. – The Jazz of Physics
Discover a whole new way of thinking with Stephon Alexander, cosmologist, saxophonist, theoretical physicist, and author of The Jazz of Physics. Alexander will discuss the intersection between Jazz and Physics with his fascinating talk.
