
Ballston Lake resident James S. Covey will be judging the Sporting Group at the 145th annual Westminster Dog Show Presented by Purina Pro Plan®. The event will take place on June 13th in Tarrytown, NY after being moved from its original date and location due to the pandemic.
Covey has been involved with dogs for nearly six decades, first starting out as kennel help. He then began showing dogs and eventually began his own breeding program of English Cocker Spaniels that produced a number of champions over the course of 25 years. In the early 1980s, Covey began breeding Norfolk Terriers and has since judged similar breeds.
The Westminster Kennel Club, established in 1877, is the second-largest, continuously held sporting event in the country. The nationally televised event has captured the hearts of canine enthusiasts for over 70 years. As an organization, it is the Club’s mission is to celebrate the companionship of dogs and promote breed reservation and responsible dog ownership.
The weekend will be kicked off on Friday, June 11th with the 8th Annual Masters Agility Championship at Westminster Presented by Purina Pro Plan® in addition to the 6th Annual Masters Obedience Championship at Westminster Presented by Purina Pro Plan® on Saturday, June 12th. Preliminary judging will be held on Saturday, June 12th and Sunday, June 13th with the Best in Show and Junior Showmanship Finals taking place on Sunday evening.
