I have been wanting to share this story with you all since New Year’s Eve. To shake things up a bit while I rang in the near year, I wanted to curl my hair in voluminous, round, bouncy curls. Can’t be that hard right? WRONG!

I wanted my hair to look like the sexy MIla Kunis below. Little did I know, that it was NEVER going to happen! Let me start my story from the beginning…

I got to my house and was so excited to get crackin’ on my perfect round curls that would make me look like a super star! I let the iron heat up for about 15 minutes, just to be safe. The iron has to be piping hot! I took a small section of my hair and wrapped it around the large barrel curling iron. 20 seconds later I unraveled the hair and there was no curl what so ever…it looked bent. I am a glass half full kind of gal, so I didn’t want to give up just yet. I must be doing it wrong I thought to myself….so I tried again. Nada, zip, zilch! I called my hair genius cousin Courtney for advice. She told me to hair spray the hair first, then curl, then hair spray again. Feeling lucky (I won $2 on a scratch off earlier that day), I tried once more. I WASN’T LUCKY ENOUGH! After trying to curl my gosh-darn hair for about an hour, I got flustered and started to sweat. Now, my hair wasn’t only drenched in hair spray and a disgusting frizzy mess, but I also had an upper lip sweat mustache. Not cute folks.
What is a girl to do?! ENOUGH, I decided! If curly, beautiful locks weren’t in the picture, I was going to have to come up with something fast, so I went to YouTube for advice. I found this awesome video that taught me how to do a bee-hive messy bun. It is the cutest hair style and the girl in the video gives very simple steps to follow. This hair style took me about 10 minutes to perfect. How awesome is that?!
Needless to say, I am NEVER trying to curl my hair again. Bee-hives are more fun anyway! Groovy baby!
And that’s my two cents…
Love this look – SO cute, but don’t give up on the curls! My 2011 new years resolution was to learn to curl my hair and the key is practice on days that you don’t have big plans. That way there’s no pressure!
Hi Liz,
Great advice. I shouldn’t give up, should I? What a great resolution…maybe I should copy you next year! 🙂 What kind of iron do you have?
Thanks for reading!

Try hot rollers and I also love Hot Tools Curling Iron – OR you could try my Instyler… 🙂
Dont waste your time with a curling iron, use hot rollers. Mine are from Remington= didnt cost much (less than thirty dollars). They heat up quickly, and they work well. I too have tried a curling iron without success; it felt awkward. I spray with hair spray when my rollers are in my hair. (Suave). Works well!
Thanks for the advice Suec! I’ll have to try that next time. I appreciate your comments and please keep reading! Have a good weekend 🙂
