The Tang Teaching Museum is opening its doors for a sepcial event to welcome incoming students and welcome back the community, celebrating the new academic year with art, music, and food. The evening ill start with a welcome from the museum's Dayton Director, Ian Berry, and tours of the museum's six exhibitions given by Berry and other staff members.

Toshiko Takaezu (1922-2011) helped establish ceramics as a fine art medium, challenging the long-held association of pottery with craft and functionality. Moving away from traditional forms, she created closed vessels and spherical pots inspired by natural imagery, both earthly and celestial. Her rounded shapes hide mysterious interiors: some hold small clay pieces that rattle inside, while others have poetry written on their inside walls, never to be seen.

The Feminist Responsibility Project (FRP) by New York-based artist Beverly Semmes includes drawings, video, ceramics, and illuminated glass forms that are suspended throughout the gallery. At the heart of the exhibition is a collection of works on paper that features rough gestural applications of ink and paint that conceal and reveal the body as depicted in pornographic magazines.

Skidmore College's Tang Museum presents "I was a double", featuring a multi-layered group exhibition/composition that interweaves music and art, on July 5. The exhibition is co-curated by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer David Lang.

The City Center’s lobby is filled with several local treasures for residents and visitors to enjoy this summer. Currently on display are the Saratoga En Pointe ballet shoes and the “Saratoga Surrender” bronze on loan from the Friends of the Saratoga Battlefield. The newest edition to the space is a harness racing exhibit from the Saratoga Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame. Admission in free.
