NACRE DANCE GROUP PRESENTS TRADITIONAL AND NON-TRADITIONAL DANCE THIS HOLIDAY SEASON
SARATOGA SPRINGS and ALBANY, NY - Nacre Dance Group proudly presents two dance classics this holiday season that promise to delight audiences of all ages. Honoring Nacre Dance Group’s mission of collaboration, each performance unites dancers from various capital region dance studios with visiting artists.
Dance festivities begin at the Universal Preservation Hall on Sunday, December 11th at 4pm and 7pm with Christmas Oratorio. Nacre Dance Group’s production is based on modern dance pioneer Charles Weidman's later version of "Christmas Oratorio" which opened in 1961 to wide critical acclaim, and has remained a much-loved classic work of modern dance. Weidman's masterful choreography combined with Bach's passionate music brings a moving and unforgettable portrayal of the Nativity this holiday season. Only a select few dance companies in the world have performed the Christmas Oratorio. We are excited to present this work in Saratoga Springs' newest performing arts venue.
What makes Nacre Dance Group’s Nutcracker production special? An array of talented dancers from various studios combined with visiting artists (who work alongside students to share and educate) in preparation of this most recognized dance holiday classic! With many twists and turns, literally, dancers showcase many genres of dance from folk, modern dance, traditional ballet and a cheer (or two) from our cheerleading haute couture mice in the battle scene. Joining dancers in the battle scene is visiting choreographer Zachary Frazee (Frazee Feet Dance of Rochester, NY) who not only choreographed this exciting new battle scene but dances the iconic role of Rat King. Lead dancers in the Chinese Variation and Snowbabies in Act II will don new costumes by designer, Yesl Um. Nutcracker wouldn’t be complete without falling snow, but Nacre also sprinkles in some magic by area magician, Alan Edstrom. Our Nutcracker will be performed at The Egg in Albany on December 17th at 2pm and 7:30pm.
