For some time I have been wanting to write about MJ
I was recently telling someone I knew that I believed
that the titles of Michael Jackson’s albums were really
a window into the mans psyche.
His first solo album was entitled “OFF THE WALL”
which of course he was but we didn’t know that about him then.
His next album was the aptly named “THRILLER” and he really was, he was only
25 years old and literally at the height of his career.
Then came “BAD”, with increased plastic surgery Michael Jackson who claimed
to have only had a nose job at the time was looking less and less like his naturally
handsome self and he just looked.. well, BAD.
Then the album “DANGEROUS” came out, the cover sported only Jackson’s eyes and
very altered and arched eyebrows looking through what almost seemed like a peep hole
and surrounded by child like circus like creepiness, it was during this time that allegations of child abuse were not only becoming public but disturbingly more frequent. Yes he really became dangerous.
I cannot say that I am shocked by the news of his death, Elvis also died just as he was about to kick off another world tour long after his true career as an entertainer was over. Could MJ, have had a moment of clarity and decided to kill himself? That remains to be discovered.
In my opinion he did have a moment of clarity, he was the ultimate Dorian Gray who was terrified of becoming old and unattractive. He had a ton of financial problems that were not going away and that a world tour probably couldn’t salvage anyhow. He was about to turn 51 years old but I must admit DEAD AT 50 sounds a hell of a lot better does’nt it?
Michael Jackson’s life reminds me of an F.Scott Fitzgerald quote:
“Show me a hero and I will write you a tragedy.”
Nancy, I like your thought process on the album covers. His was a very sad story about racism and child abuse and we won't know the half of it until a Jackson family member finally tells all.
I have but two thoughts about the death of Michael Jackson. One being that now children are a bit more safe. Two being that there will be a bit more air for we normal people to breath.
I do not dismiss his talent. But to me, his anomolies far overshadowed his musical acomplishments. He was a freak.
Fame and Drugs are dangerous, isn't it ironic how so many people seek both?
