When you do not pay your electric bill, National Grid has an annoying habit of coming to turn your electricity off, sometimes with or without warning. Thats how it is. I know because I’ve had it happen to me and when you are writer on a deadline, having a computer that doesn’t work isn’t exactly conducive to creating anything.
Enough already. We’ve been had, and the time has come to go Howard Beale. We’re mad as hell, and we’re not taking it anymore.
We want our VLT money – period. And whether you want to go Mao-tse-Tung citing power coming out of a loaded gun, or if your taste runs towards George Wallace standing in the doorway of the University of Alabama, we want to see some action.
Shut it down.
Until the powers that be see fit to give us ‘ours’, we take the position of Malcolm X: by any means necessary.
Or….. our politicians can exert some leadership.
Each day that the Racino stays open, we are being mocked as impotent ineffective citizens. But remember, we’re mad as hell.
Here’s what would work: shut their water off Skip. Or let the water mains around the place “break”. God knows they’re old enough, right (wink)? Let ’em flush the toilets with beer for all we care.
Or, start that pork barrel project that we all need: the complete excavation of Nelson Ave., Jefferson St., Crescent Ave., etc. Say we’re looking for historical artifacts that pre-date our sainted Victorian heritage. Ron, you may need to send some squad cars to make sure nobody interferes with this important archeological excavation.
Or consider this: if 5000 people go thru the racino on average each day, and we put up a toll road charging a buck per head, that’s $1,825,000 Bay-Bee! About what Ken says we can raise through parking meters, and about what Gov. Paterson stole from us.
Look, we’d rather negotiate. But c’mon – do you think that with Albany’s budget crisis they are going to listen to a bunch of petition signers? No my friends, Albany is about power, and God helps those that help themselves.
I am sorry it had to come to this. We Saratogians didn’t start this debacle, but either we end it or no one else will.
Peace out.
