About this event
Raul Midón is a Grammy-nominated contemporary singer-songwriter whose impassioned acoustic guitar playing, which traverses pop, jazz, soul, urban, cumbia, and flamenco, has garnered as much attention as his smooth singing and sophisticated writing. Blind since birth, Midón's breezy, sweet, silky style has endeared him to jazz and pop audiences worldwide. He can be heard on more than 60 Latin recordings, many Grammy winning.
Within a year of wrapping up a stint in Shakira's band as a vocalist, he debuted at Carnegie Hall with the Movie Music of Spike Lee. He soon followed with his television debut on The David Letterman Show, followed with performances on Leno, Ferguson, & Jimmy Kimmel. He has worked with Bill Withers, Herbie Hancock, Sting, Terence Blanchard, & Dianne Reeves to name a few. He received two Grammy nominations back-to-back in 2017 and 2018 for his albums “Bad Ass and Blind” and “If You Really Want” in the Best Jazz Vocal Category. In 2021 he was awarded the Disability Rights Ambassador of the year award, presented to him in a virtual ceremony by his friend and colleague Jason Mraz.
Our jazz fans will want to know that he dueted with recent Caffe Lena artists Alex Cuba on his 2023 Grammy-winning album Mendo, and has recently recorded with one of his favorite guitarists, Stephane Wrembel, and vibraphonist Joe Locke. Midón is now working on a novel, "Tembererana."
