Thoughts and Ponderings
By Nancy Muldoon
• Now that summer is officially here I cringe to think of all the white people I will be subjected to who will inevitably feel the need to tell me how dark they get in the summer.
As many stupid self congratulatory awards shows that we have here in America, to my knowledge there are no tanning awards and until I hear the words, “and the nominees for the best tan are….” Please shut the hell up because I just don’t care about your tan, let me enjoy my pale and youthful healthy looking skin.
• Where is a helicopter mom when you need one? It seems that every time I go to the Saratoga Springs Public library the level of noise continues to get higher and higher.
The old library had it right by providing a separate entrance for moms and kids and you could also check books out at the children’s floor as well. Nowadays, parents ignore their children who are having a full fledged temper tantrums and people talk on their cell phones with no regard for other who are trying to read or study. It’s sad that I have had to leave the library on occasion for quieter place to read. What is the world coming to? Is nothing sacred?
• Mothers have been blamed for everything from global warming to the deficit; we live in a country that criticizes stay at home moms for staying home and working mothers for working. When it comes to mother bashing at least we are consistent.
• Am I the only person that notices that the most heinous crimes seem to happen in the state of Texas and Florida? And that the worst drivers seem to be sporting New Jersey and Massachusetts license plates?
Wouldn't it be nice to make everyone shut their cell phones off for one day?
