In my spinning studio we have had lots of new folks joining us to get fit and healthy. I try to teach classes designed to help build an aerobic base. So, what the heck is that? Aerobic refers to the energy created using the oxygen in your system and the base is the platform for which you can build from. To work within that range, your heart rate must be around 65%-75% of your maximum. We try to do this for around 6 weeks to really get a solid base.
How do we do it? If you are wearing a heart rate monitor (https://www.saratoga.com/spinterest/2012/05/heart-rate.html) you can gauge if you are within the aerobic base building range.
Some of the benefits of building your base are; better fat burning, stronger immune system, stronger performance, better sleeping, less risk for heart disease and maybe improved mood!
Staying within that aerobic range and not going “all out” is sometimes the best way to start out your fitness journey. Another reason we build is to make sure that we don’t get “burnt out” too quickly from our new active lifestyle. It makes the workouts more manageable and you will be more likely to come back for more, while noticing results.
