This week the kids are off from school and the holidays are winding down, but there is still plenty to do, especially since it will be New Year’s Eve! This week’s picks have a couple ideas for kick starting those New Year’s Resolutions for getting in shape and a couple ideas for letting your hair down and enjoying some great music, definitely something for everyone!
1. This is one FAB pick that actually doesn’t require a babysitter for you to have some non-kid time! Over at Hot Yoga Saratoga on Tuesdays from 4:30-5:30pm they offer two corresponding classes, a hot “Hour of Power” class for adults in the Hot Yoga Studio while the kids take a fun, relaxing Kids Yoga class next door at the sister studio at One Yoga Saratoga. Drop-ins are always welcome, cost is $12 (per class). Drop in and de-stress after the holidays while the kids get a good stretch too! Call 518-587-YOGA for more information.
2. 9 Maple is one of my absolute favorite spots in Saratoga for an after dinner drink. An intimate, forty seat jazz bar set deep in the heart of downtown they have the largest selection of single malt scotches in New York State and a martini menu of over 250 choices – plus a wide selection of bourbons and Irish whiskies. Starting at 9pm on Friday, Dec 30th you can enjoy the Terry Gordon Quartet while you sip one of their amazing espresso martinis.
3. On Friday, Dec 30th check out Diz at Davidson Brothers Brewing Company at 184 Glen Street in Glens Falls from 6-10pm. Enjoy this multi instrumentalist, singer, performer, one-man-jam-band while enjoying one of their signature fresh brewpub ales and some delicious food.
4. Head to Vapor at Saratoga Casino and Raceway on Friday, Dec. 30th to catch The Audiostars. The Audiostars are a kinetic four piece band that delivers classic songs with an energy and passion that define live music at its very best. Kick off New Year’s Eve weekend right with a great night at Vapor with the Audiostars, and even better, admission is FREE!
5. First Night Saratoga has something for everyone, if you’re a runner brave the cold and participate in the 14th Annual First Night Saratoga 5K Run. Start and finish on the beautiful Skidmore campus, the run is a moderately challenging course, including both hills and downgrades, get your sneakers on and start those healthy New Year’s Resolutions early! Then after you have some family fun in the beginning of the night with the kids, drop the kids off with a sitter and head out for some grown up fun! Pop in the downtown Saratoga shops and stop in the restaurants around the city which will be staying open late to ring in the new year. And don’t miss the annual fireworks show to welcome in the New Year at midnight!
