Having the kids home all week from school might make you panic a little bit wondering what options you have to keep them active and entertained, but have no fear! Mamatoga has picked out five great activities and events to keep them busy and happy during their week off, and for even more ideas check out Mamatoga’s School Break Survival Guide on Mamatoga.com where I’ll be giving you ideas and information all week long!
1. At the Children’s Museum at Saratoga on Monday, Dec. 26th from 10-11 am check out Live Animal Presentation: Reptiles! Join them to meet some scaly special guests in the Pet Vet exhibit! Kids will learn more about caring for these unusual pets from their owner, Children’s Museum educator Lindsay.
2. On Tuesday, Dec. 27th from 10:30-12:30 check out European Holiday Traditions: POLAND at the World Awareness Children’s Museum, 89 Warren Street in downtown Glens Falls. Join them for a morning of exploring other cultures, this program will feature Poland with paper cutting, stories and sweets. Cost is $5 for museum admission which includes the program. Registration is recommended, for ages 6 and up. They’re also offering a Germany program on Thursday and a Romania program on Friday, check Saratoga.com’s event calendar for details!
3. On Thursday the 29th the Saratoga Springs Public Library will have The Puppet People Present: A Christmas Carol, a Charles Dickens’ holiday classic, this show features beautiful handcrafted marionettes, shadow puppets, gorgeous masks, lavish costumes, vivid sets, a professional soundtrack that includes many holiday favorites, and a giant 9-foot parade puppet! For ages 5 and older. Free tickets are available in the Children’s Room. Three shows that day, 11am-12pm, 1-2pm and 3-4pm. Call (518) 584-7860 for more information.
4. At Saratoga Spa State Park there is a Beginning Snowshoeing Class on Thursday, December 29th from 11am – 12:30pm. Participants will practice putting on the snowshoes before learning how to walk on a short, flat loop around the park. This program costs $5 per person with snowshoe rental. Please call (518) 584-2000 Ext. 116 to register. This program will be cancelled if there is no snow. Registration is required.
5. Saturday, December 31st is New Year’s Eve and Saratoga has a fabulous night lined up for families. First Night Saratoga is a fantastic family-oriented New Year’s celebration of the culture and tradition in Saratoga Springs with over 70 performances of music, art, comedy, film, dance and lots of fun for kids starting 5:30pm.
