While many of you feel comfortable in a gym or an exercise studio, I wanted to give you some options of you are not one of those people. I also realize that in the summertime, many of you put your memberships on “hold” or just don’t feel the need to get to the gym when it is beautiful outside and I totally understand that!!
Here are some things that you can do right in your own backyard, or even in Congress Park.
Push ups – you can modify these and do them on your knees or toes. They build lots of upper body strength and get your heart pumping. Try setting a small goal for yourself and building each week.
Plank – get yourself into push up position and hold your core strong while pushing your heels back and keeping your back in a straight line. Again, try holding this for a few seconds and build from there.
Squats – put your feet outside of your hips, turn toes out slightly, knees directly over toes and push your butt back. Come down and up in a controlled movement while bracing your core.
Jumping Jacks – you know the drill on these! They get your heart pumping!
Try doing a circuit of those exercises a few times a week to boost your metabolism without having to set foot in the gym.
