That is basically what most gyms require you to do if you would like to join. With so many folks struggling in this economy, that is a tough commitment to make. Luckily, we live in such a great city with so many flexible options for fitness and health. We also have lots of free workouts available to us by just going outside!
With the impending doom (as my husband puts it) of winter almost upon us, try to take advantage of the beautiful fall weather and get outside. Simple activities like taking a walk, jog or run, riding your bike or hiking in the Adirondacks are great FREE ways to get fit.
If it is miserable outside and you want to get a workout in, try a single class at one of the many options in town. There is pilates, yoga, Spinning (at my studio!), and lots of other options that do not require you to sign up for a whole year or pay an “initiation fee” (what is that anyhow?)
Personally, I haven’t had a gym membership in about a year and I do not miss it! I get all of my workouts in without wasting a dime on a membership that I may or may not be able to use. In my studio, you can get in a yoga class, do a lot of cardio work, interval training and strength training.
Another advantage of ditching your gym membership is that you get specialized attention at the smaller studios and you are not just member number 2397 of 10,000.
Here are some local events going on in town:
9/22, Ride, Run, Walk for Love
9/28-9/29, Ragnar Relay Race
9/30, Nicks Run to be Healed 5k
10/19, Spin for a Cure
