While cardiovascular exercise is very important for numerous reasons, lets not forget about our muscles! Lifting weights, whether they are light or heavy, whether you do a few reps or a lot of reps, will bring your fitness and health to the next level.
Here are a few good reasons to pick up those weights:
1lb of muscle takes up less MASS on your body than 1lb of fat. So, the more muscle mass you have, the leaner your body will appear to be.
The older you get, the less dense your muscle and bone mass will become. Lifting weights and doing strength training can help to fight this.
Strength training can help you fight off some diseases such as osteoporosis, type 2 diabetes and many more.
It can boost your mood, immune system, and improve your sleeping.
The more muscle mass you have, the more calories you burn – even at rest! That means while you are relaxing on the couch, catching up on your favorite shows, you will be burning mega calories!
