Skidmore Is Planning A New Fitness Center

Skidmore College is planning to build a two-story fitness and tennis center on its 315-acre Saratoga Springs campus.
The college is working with Consigli Construction of Albany, The LA Group landscape architecture firm of Saratoga Springs and Barton & Loguidice in Colonie to design the project.
Plans filed with the city Planning Board call for a 50,000-square-foot building with weight rooms, offices, locker rooms and four indoor tennis courts.
The college, located off North Broadway, also is in the midst of constructing a multiphase Center for Integrated Sciences. The 58,000-square-foot first phase, scheduled to be finished this year, will include 58 laboratories and classrooms.
At a December Planning Board meeting, Mike Bianchino from Lansing Engineering here representing Chris Litchfield from Litchfield Holdings regarding the Impact Athletic Planned Development District being sought by Litchfield for the project.
He said the indoor recreation facility would have about a 55,000-square-foot footprint. It calls for a 17,785-square-foot mezzanine area on the second floor which makes the total square footage 72,885.
The interior of the building would include six basketball courts , a large training area, several small exercise studios, locker rooms and daycare, a snack bar, office space, a small retail area and several general congregation areas. There would be 300 parking spaces.
In a separate local project, a development company based in Connecticut received permission from the Halfmoon Planning Board to create a planned development district for 70 single-family homes.
The Creekview Estates Residential Planned Development District (PDD) would be a subdivision on Upper Newtown Road, according to Planning Board documents.
Scott Price of M.J. Engineering and Land Surveying PC in Clifton Park represented the applicant, Beacon Development, at the meeting.
The project would be on 96 acres. The proposal is to develop 56 acres of the property under the PDD, with the remaining 40 acres to be retained by the owner.
The minimum lot size is 10,800 square feet , with lot widths of 80 feet, The units would have 30 feet for the front yard, 10 foot for the sides and 20 feet for the rear. There is 27 acres of open space included in the project.
