This bell is part of the historic Universal Preservation Hall building being renovated into a
performance venue. The facility is getting a state grant to hire a director to oversee the restoration.

The Capital Region economic sector, which
includes Saratoga County, was not selected in December
as one of the three winners of the Upstate
Revitalization Initiative, a $1.5 billion, five-year
economic development competition that would
have brought $500 million in state funds to the
region for various projects.

But the Capital Region received $98.1 million
in aid for projects this year, of which about $2.1
million is specifically earmarked for projects in
Saratoga County.

The winning regions in the competition were
the Finger Lakes, the Southern Tier and Central
New York.

However on Dec. 10, Gov. Andrew Cuomo
announced the awarding of $2.25 billion in
economic and community development funding
through Round V of the Regional Economic
Development Council initiative and the Upstate
Revitalization Initiative.

Tedisco: Top New Year's Resolution For Fixing New York's Economy Is Cleaning Up Albany

Posted onJanuary 8, 2016November 8, 2017

Assemblyman Jim Tedisco represents
Glenville and parts of Saratoga County.

BY ASSEMBLYMAN JIM TEDISCO

As we enter 2016, one of the most important
ways lawmakers can ensure New York has a
vibrant economy is to clean-up the corruption
in Albany so we have an open and accountable
state government.

Our representative democracy was started
by a revolution in 1776 against the tyranny of
a king. Today, we have a state legislature that
has enabled leaders to act like despots by ceding
too much power to them for far too long.

The recently convicted leaders were able to
steal taxpayer dollars because of the unbridled
power that was given to them not by voters but
by majorities in each house of the legislature.

Currently, the Assembly Speaker and the
Senate Majority Leader–no matter who they
are–hold enormous power to abuse the system
and stop bills from coming to the floor
even if they are mathematically sponsored by
a majority of members from each house of
the legislature (76 out of 150 in the Assembly
and 32 out of 63 in the Senate). The current
system illustrates less of what a representative
democracy is and more of a kingship.

Dollar General Eyes Wilton As Site For Distribution Center; 420 Jobs Could Be Created

Posted onJanuary 8, 2016November 8, 2017

BY LIZ WITBECK

As the national chain Dollar General expands
across the country, the corporation plans to build
an additional distribution center in the northeastern
United States and one of the locations being
considered is in Wilton.

The distribution center would be built off Ballard
Road, in a complex that currently contains
distribution centers for both Ace Hardware and
Target. There would be two sites, approximately
70 acres and 20 acres each.

The project is expected to create 420 jobs, according
to the company.

Dollar General is experiencing immense
growth and plans to open 900 new stores in 2016,
company officials said. They recently opened
several new stores in Maine and Rhode Island,
as well as in Upstate New York area.

Bundle Store Increases Space, Has Convenient Parking At Its New Location In Clifton Park

BY JENNIFER FARNSWORTH

The Bundle Store has a new location at 1789
Route 9 in Clifton Park. Nestled in between Exit 9
and Exit 10 of the Northway, owner Amber Chaves
said the move from Ballston Spa allows for more
space and other positive changes.

Chaves said going from 300 to 1,700 square feet
gives the store a better way to showcase its goods
and more space for classes conducted for mothers.
There is also more parking.

“Before we could only offer on-street parking and
classes sometimes held outside, because of space.
Now we have the room that we need,” said Chaves.

Chaves opened The Bundle Store in 2013. The
business expanded, but has managed to stay true
to its original purpose. Chaves said the reasons
why she started the company are still what is most
important. She wanted to give parents a safe place to
go for advice on baby carrying and natural products
for infants, such as cloth diapers.

County Board of Supervisors to deal with economic development issues in the county.

BY R.J. DELUKE

A two-year plan for promoting economic growth,
devised by Saratoga Prosperity Partnership and
presented last month, is something the economic
development organization says will “propel Saratoga
County forward” in its quest to attract more business
while at the same time retaining jobs at existing
businesses.

Martin Vanags, president of the group created in
2014 by the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors,
said that while the program was formally unveiled
in December, its implementation started earlier in
the year and is ongoing.

It was developed with assistance from the consulting
firm TIPS Strategies out of Austin, Texas,
Vanags said. The plan involves brainstorming with
business and government leaders to best focus on
the targeted goals.

“We are about this plan,” he said about the Partnership,
“putting our nose to the grindstone and
moving forward.”

Priority One Payroll, an eight-year-old payroll
service company, has moved to new, larger officers
in Malta but things have been too busy for
them to show off the new space to the public.

“We love our new space,” company head Jeannine
Dubiac said, and she hopes to have an open
house and ribbon-cutting in the spring.

The company moved its offices from the Village
of Ballston Spa to 3 Hemphill Place in the
Parade Ground Village complex on Route 9 near
Northway Exit 12.

The move from a 700-square-foot office to
1,700 square feet of space was prompted by the
company’s growth. It allowed the business to add
new employees and to install camera security
and other security systems to protect clients’
confidential information.
