SEDC President Dennis Brobston to Step Down Later This Year

Saratoga Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) President Dennis Brobston will leave the non-profit company at the end of the year, ending an almost 15-year tenure that brought transformative projects to both Saratoga County and the Capital Region. Brobston will take some time off early in 2023 to consider his next endeavor.

Brobston’s decision was announced today by SEDC Board of Director Chairperson John E. Munter, Jr., who lauded the impact of Brobston and his team.

“Every family in Saratoga County and the surrounding counties has access to better employment opportunities because of what Dennis and his team have accomplished,” Munter said. “Our economy has expanded as companies invested in facilities, technology, and talent. Saratoga County is a better place to live work and play because of this team.”

Equally important, Munter added, “They have laid the foundation for Saratoga County residents to continue to benefit from a continually growing economy for years to come.”

Brobston informed the Board of Directors recently to provide ample time to name his successor, who will be recruited via a search that will include local and regional candidates.

Brobston took the helm of SEDC in March 2008. Under his leadership, SEDC has worked with hundreds of businesses to expand or locate in Saratoga County. Private investment since March of 2008 reached $16 billion and job creation grew by over 5,000 while over 4,000 jobs were retained on projects SEDC worked on.

SEDC and Saratoga County gained international recognition when GlobalFoundries broke ground in 2009 on a new 300mm semiconductor manufacturing facility or “Chip Fab”. The firm, located in Malta, created over 3,000 new jobs in Saratoga County and over 20,000 indirect and induced jobs throughout the region.

Brobston stated” While the big projects get the press and awards, it’s the small businesses, locally grown and owned, that are still where the most growth and stability come from. We have worked with hundreds of businesses and thousands of people over the years.”

“It has been an honor to work with the SEDC team promoting Saratoga County,” Brobston said. “Together with our Saratoga County partners, SEDC will continue to impact the regional and state economy for many years. It hasn’t always been easy or fast, but our efforts always pay off. Working together, we are the driving force for job creation and new investment in Saratoga County.”

Before joining SEDC as President, Brobston was executive director of the Wesley Foundation of the Wesley Community. Brobston started at SEDC in March of 1996 and left as VP of community development in November of 2005. He was economic development director for Clifton Park/Halfmoon while working for the Southern Saratoga County Chamber from 1995-1996.
