Saratoga Springs, N.Y.—Artists, art critics, and curators will gather at the Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 11-12, for a series of public discussions titled “Jewel Thieves: Abstract Art and Forms of Display.”

The symposium, sponsored by the Tang’s Alfred Z. Solomon residency, will explore the nature of abstract art, how various audiences perceive and experience it, and how it is presented to the public. All of the discussions are open to the public free of charge.

Aikido of Saratoga County Opens School of Self Defense in Schuylerville

Schuylerville, New York – Aikido of Saratoga County will start conducting Aikido classes Monday, November 8 in Schuylerville, NY at 76 Broad Street, above the Dwell retail shop.

Aikido is a defensive, highly sophisticated Japanese Martial Art based upon movement and leverage making it suitable for men and women.

Chief Instructor Sensei Arnie Gentile, who has taught Aikido in several cities across the U.S. including six years at the Saratoga YMCA, states that, “on a purely physical level, Aikido techniques utilize effective locks and projection throws rather than kicking or punching. Students learn to blend with and redirect attacks from one or multiple opponents.” Sensei Gentile continued to say that, “the flowing nature of the techniques along with proper breathing promotes a sense of relaxation during critically stressful times. Over the past 15 years, the Saratoga Builders Association has contributed over $650,000 to local charities and scholarships.
