Saratoga Resident Captures Attention Of CNN

Local Saratoga Springs Mom Noticed For Her Charity

SARATOGA SPRINGS NY, October 2010 -- Clifton Park native Tara Brettholtz started collecting purses 2 years ago for her non-profit, 'Mothers & More.'

Why purses? Just about every woman owns one, but for women in poverty; it is a luxury that cannot be afforded and one that is greatly apprecited.

The project began with a simple goal in 2009-- to collect 600 purses for women in need. They would then be distributed from the local YWCA in Troy to women who relied on the services there. Then the project became more widespread. 10,500 purses have been handed out by other non-profits like hers in almost 50 cities across the country; "the Power of a Purse," indeed. (Power of a Purse is the name that Brettholtz has given this initiative).

Now the choosing of a purse for these women has become an event -- a party that has been designed not only to socialize, but to network, and bring women together.

Brettholtz herself was honored on CNN as a 'CNN Breakthrough Woman' recently.
