About the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center at SPAC

This summer, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center (CMS) returns to Saratoga Springs for its highly anticipated summer residency from July 12 to July 26, 2026.

Under the leadership of co-artistic directors David Finckel (cello) and Wu Han (piano), CMS brings an incredible, multi-generational roster of the world’s finest musicians to the region. Since becoming one of SPAC's resident companies in 2013, they have delivered inspiring, year-round performances that captivate both seasoned connoisseurs and newcomers alike.

Here is what makes their residency a must-see highlight of the local cultural calendar:

  • A Roster of Classical Superstars: Audiences can expect to see world-renowned masters and regional favorites take the stage. The rotating lineup regularly features celebrated artists like Arnaud Sussmann, Nicholas Canellakis, Paul Neubauer, Matthew Lipman, and the acclaimed Calidore String Quartet.
  • Spotlighting Tomorrow's Legends: CMS is highly regarded for discovering and mentoring exceptional young talent through its prestigious Bowers Program. A performance at SPAC is a fantastic opportunity to catch rising stars—like Sterling Elliott, Evren Ozel, Stella Chen, George Li, and the Viano Quartet—before they become household names.
  • From Timeless Masterpieces to Modern Works: The concert programs bridge centuries of musical innovation. You will hear iconic, definitive compositions from giants like Beethoven, Bach, and Brahms, alongside brilliant, lesser-known pieces from diverse composers across generations, including Shostakovich, Villa-Lobos, and Wynton Marsalis.
  • Insightful & Story-Driven Programs: These concerts are designed to be thoroughly engaging, often focusing on a specific instrument or a unique historical theme. To make the experience even more welcoming, the musicians regularly speak directly to the audience from the stage, sharing fascinating backstory, historical context, and biographical trivia before they play.

⚠️ Important 2026 Venue Note: While the historic, 500+ seat Spa Little Theater undergoes renovations this year, the 2026 CMS summer performances are being temporarily hosted at the beautiful Arthur Zankel Music Center at Skidmore College.
