It’s the week we’ve all been waiting for; Travers Day is here this Saturday, August 27th! And you know what that means — lots of people and lots of traffic throughout Travers Week.
Plan a break from the crowded streets of Spa City, and make reservations at any one of these 9 great restaurants that are all just a short drive away from the Saratoga Race Course! You’ll be glad you did!
1. Top Notch Tavern
Heritage Steak and Seafood House
Located in Hagaman, about 30 minutes from the track, Top Notch aims to take you back to a simpler time when everything was made fresh from scratch. The restaurant is known for their amazing black Angus steak and fresh seafood – the steaks are hand cut every day, and the seafood is brought in daily from Boston!
Located in Round Lake, 15 minutes from the track, Lake Ridge offers fresh fish, decadent pastas, amazing chicken, and fantastic steaks. The diverse menu includes everything from herb crusted swordfish to filet mignon to duck breast – there will definitely be a meal to please everyone in your crowd.
3. Sweet Beet Bistro
Homegrown and Homemade
Sweet Beet is situated in a classic historical building in the quaint village of Greenwich, about 25 minutes from the track. This bistro buys local ingredients for their dishes when they’re in season – you can be sure to get a high quality meal here. Gluten-free and vegetarian options are also available.
Gourmet Pizzas and Italian Fare
You simply cannot go wrong with a mouthwatering pizza while you sit outside and enjoy a waterfront view. Located right on Ballston Lake a little under 20 minutes from the track, Villago offers a range of amazing Italian dishes in addition to perfect pizza – Eggplant Napolitano and Pork Osso Bucco, to name a couple.
Melting Pot Inspired American
A short drive from Saratoga, Carson’s Woodside Tavern in Malta has a menu inspired by the many cultural influences in America. Keep it classic with American favorites like wraps, burgers and sandwiches or switch it up with house made German bratwurst, Cajun-inspired blackened chicken nachos, and more.
Home-Style Italian Cooking
This restaurant serves large, family-style portions, so bring your family and friends along with your appetite. Augie’s is in Ballston Spa, about 15 minutes away from the track. They serve classic Italian pasta dishes like gnocchi, rigatoni, and ziti, along with amazing chicken and veal options.
Clark’s is in Schulyerville, just under 20 minutes from the track, and this restaurant takes a lot of pride in their hometown. The building used to be owned by Clark’s Textile Company in the late 1800s to 1900s, and Clark’s aims to keep the heritage of the building alive. Here, you can enjoy traditional steakhouse options like Delmonico or NY strip, or you can simply grab a quick bite at the bar.
8. Campagna Restaurant
Wholesome Comfort Food
Campagna in Malta is 12 minutes from the track, and they specialize in artisanal Italian comfort food. The pasta is made in-house with grade A eggs and a high quality flour from Naples; meat grinding is also done on the premises; and the meats, produce, and cheeses, are all fresh and locally sourced.
9. Dunning Street Station Bar & Grill
Fine Dining in a Casual Setting
Newly opened Dunning Street Station is a mere eight minutes from the track in Malta. Check out unique offerings like mushroom and eggplant pasta, Korean chicken pasta, or the lobster mac and cheese. There are also sandwiches, sliders, and “bar bites and starters” like stuffed jalapenos and crab con queso dip.
Additionally, there is Travers 1864 Restaurant Week going on, with a special $18.64 menu at certain restaurants.
