About this event

... as they began their final journey toward re-interment at Lake George Battlefield Park, part of the “Repose of the Fallen” memorial project. Local residents and volunteers Kerry Nelson and Larry Handy—whose efforts helped uncover these soldiers during the remarkable 2019 excavation overlooking Lake George—will share their firsthand experiences and insights. Discover what this extraordinary rediscovery reveals about the Patriots who fought to build a new nation. This program is inspired by our 2026 summer reading program, Unearth a Story and the 250th Birthday of the United States of America. Co-sponsored by the Friends of the New York State Military Museum. This program was inspired by our 2026 Summer Reading theme, "Unearth A Story."

What to Expect

  • This presentation is hosted by library staff.
  • Participants will listen to presenters and view slides and artifacts pertaining to the subject.
  • There will be dialog between speakers.
  • There may be time to ask the presenters a question.
  • You are welcome to listen quietly without participating.
  • You may arrive late or leave early if needed.
  • There is no expectation of prior knowledge about the topic.
  • The library moderates discussions to support respectful dialogue but may not endorse all viewpoints expressed.

  • Seating is in rows, theater style.
