The Tang Teaching Museum at Skidmore has an exciting new exhibition coming up – If I Had Possession Over Judgement Day: Collections of Claude Simard. The exhibition is going to feature a wide variety of works consisting of different mediums, different countries of origin, different subject matters, and more.

The Collections of Claude Simard exhibition will be on display from April 22nd through September 24th. According to a press release from Tang, the exhibition “explores the collective, resonant, and enduring web of art through the inquisitive eye of a visionary and a fervent collector, artist, and gallerist.”
Claude Simard, who only passed away just a few years ago in 2014, was a strong presence in the art community. He managed to collect a number of pieces and objects from all over the world, and from different time periods.
“His collections reveal a person searching for new experiences – sometimes mystical, sometimes reverential, sometimes political, always matching his carefully honed taste,” Ian Berry, Tang Dayton Director and curator of this exhibition, said in a statement.
Many of the works in the exhibition convey issues of identity and elements that influence the artists and their works.
Artists in the exhibit include:
- Radcliffe Bailey
- Matthew Barney
- Nick Cave
- Jean Dubuffet
- Phil Frost
- Leon Golub
- David Ireland
- Brad Kahlhamer
- Bharti Kher
- Kerry James Marshall
