2026 Gate Opening Times & Ground Rules

To secure a first-come, first-served table, timing is everything. Plan your arrival according to daily gate schedules:

  • Wednesday, June 3: 11:00 AM
  • Thursday, June 4: 11:00 AM
  • Friday, June 5: 10:00 AM
  • Saturday, June 6 (Belmont Stakes Day): 9:00 AM
  • Sunday, June 7: 11:00 AM

There are three main entrances to the track: Gates A and B (via Union Avenue) and Gate C (via Nelson Avenue).

Crucial Policy Shifts for 2026: Unlike the regular summer meet, there is no early-morning track access to claim tables before gates open. Additionally, re-entry is strictly prohibited once you enter the grounds each day.

First-Come, First-Served Backyard Picnic Tables

The vast majority of Saratoga's backyard picnic tables—about 700 in total—remain free of charge to ticketholders on a first-come, first-served basis. If you want to nab one of these iconic spots, you should plan to join the queue well before the gates officially open for the day.

Coolers & Permitted Items: Know the Dates

Saratoga is enforcing two completely different security policies depending on the day of the week.

Special Note for 2026: Ice Bag Requirement

For safety and efficiency at the admission gates, all fans bringing coolers will be required to ensure all ice is contained inside sealed bags prior to arrival.

Peak Days: Thursday, June 4 – Saturday, June 6

During the peak racing days, tight restrictions are in place. The following items are NOT permitted:

  • Outside Alcohol: Strictly banned.
  • Large Coolers: Coolers must not exceed 12" x 18" (limit one per guest; medical exceptions apply). Food and non-alcoholic drinks are fine inside these approved personal coolers.
  • Large Bags: Backpacks and handbags must be under 16" x 16" x 8".
  • Gear & Furniture: Pop-up tents, folding tables, wagons, and hand carts are completely prohibited.

Mid-Week & Finale: Wednesday, June 3 & Sunday, June 7

The rules relax significantly on Wednesday and Sunday. The following items ARE permitted:

  • Outside alcohol (in non-glass containers).
  • Standard-sized coolers.
  • Temporary furniture (folding chairs, folding tables, pop-up tents).
  • Wagons and hand carts.

Note: Glass containers, grills, large umbrellas, fireworks, confetti, and weapons are banned across all five days of the festival.
