Saratoga Springs has long been the ultimate summer destination thanks to the popular summer meet at Saratoga Race Course. In 2026, racing fans will have even more to anticipate as the track expands to a 46-day racing schedule and plays host to the July 4th Racing Festival.
Held from Friday, July 3 through Sunday, July 5, the three-day celebration blends world-class stakes races with patriotic fanfare, family activities, and historic tributes.

About the Festival: Essential Know-Before-You-Go Info
If you are planning to experience the excitement of Opening Weekend in person, a little preparation goes a long way. This year’s Independence Day celebration at the Spa promises to be unforgettable, featuring elite Grade 1 racing, patriotic food and drink specials, and commemorative live performances.
To help maximize your trackside experience, keep these essential gate policies, new cash rules, and backyard tips in mind:
- Gate Times & Table Rush: While grandstand gates open at 11:00 AM daily, die-hard fans looking to score a coveted, free backyard picnic table can enter early starting at 7:00 AM. Be sure to bring your own tablecloth to claim your spot—on marquee holiday weekends, every single table is often claimed within minutes!
- Go Cashless for Purchases: Cash will not be accepted for food and beverage purchases, track admission, parking, or racing programs (with the exception of the official Saratoga merchandise store) during the 2026 season. Credit cards, debit cards, and mobile wallets (like Apple Pay) will be accepted for all non-wagering purchases.
- Wagering & Reverse ATMs: Fans should still carry cash on race day if they plan to place traditional on-track wagers. If you run low on plastic, "reverse ATMs" (cash-to-card kiosks) will be available at multiple locations throughout the venue to turn your cash into a usable debit card.
- Cooler & New Ice Policy: Coolers are welcome in the backyard, trackside building, and apron areas (no glass containers permitted). To ensure safety and speed up security lines at the gates, all ice must be entirely contained within sealed bags prior to arrival. Loose ice will not be permitted through security.
- All-Weekend FIFA World Cup 26™ Viewing Party: Running all three days of the festival, fans can head over to the Backyard Festival Tent for a massive viewing party hosted by Michelob Ultra and Saratoga Eagle. Entry is free with track admission, and fans will have the opportunity to take home official giveaways from Michelob Ultra (the official beer sponsor of FIFA World Cup 26™) and other World Cup partners, while supplies last.

Friday, July 3, 2026: Opening Day & Saratoga 250 Giveaway
- Gates Open: 11:00 AM | First Post: 1:10 PM
The gates fly open for the historic 2026 summer meet with a stellar opening day card, a giveaway, and a special trackside welcome for fans.
- Saratoga 250 Tumbler Giveaway: Fans entering with paid admission will receive a commemorative souvenir tumbler, presented by Saratoga 250. Vouchers are distributed while supplies last, so arriving early is highly recommended.
- The Racing Lineup: The day's premier event on the dirt is the $200,000 Schuylerville Stakes for lightning-fast two-year-old fillies sprinting six furlongs. Grass racing enthusiasts will also get a thrill with two competitive $150,000 turf features: the Wild Applause Stakes and the Saranac Stakes.
- Backyard Event: The FIFA World Cup 26™ Viewing Party kicks off in the Backyard Festival Tent with big screens and exclusive soccer giveaways.
Saturday, July 4, 2026: Independence Day & Grade 1 Blockbusters

Saratoga pairs patriotic fanfare with a massive afternoon of multi-million dollar racing for America's 250th anniversary. Celebrate Independence Day 250 at the Spa with a massive lineup of special trackside perks and entertainment:
- Holiday Tumbler Giveaway: Early arrivals with paid admission can pick up the holiday-edition Saratoga 250 souvenir tumbler (while vouchers last).
- $1 Dollar Dogs: Celebrate with $1 Carnegie Deli hot dogs, available at all concessions locations where hot dogs are typically sold.
- Free Spirits Sampling: Fans 21 and older can enjoy complimentary samples of Subourbon Life, a premium bourbon-based ready-to-drink cocktail.
- Family-Friendly Activities: Keep the kids entertained all afternoon with Revolutionary-era music, live entertainment, pony rides, a petting zoo, and classic carnival games.
- The Racing Lineup: The centerpiece of the holiday is a world-class turf double: the prestigious $750,000 Belmont Derby (G1) and the $600,000 Belmont Oaks (G1). Main track heavy hitters will also clash in the historic $500,000 Suburban Handicap (G2) alongside tomorrow's stars sprinting in the $225,000 Sanford Stakes (G3).

Sunday, July 5, 2026: Turf Showcase Sunday & Steeplechase Action

The holiday festival wraps up with a spectacular "Saratoga Sunday" turf paradise card showcasing three entirely unique grass challenges, paired with another full afternoon of trackside family fun.
- Family-Friendly Activities: The Sunday celebration features another round of great activities for kids, including Revolutionary-era entertainment, pony rides, a petting zoo, and carnival games.
- The Racing Lineup: The spotlight belongs to the $150,000 Leo O'Brien (G1), a thrilling steeplechase event where elite jumpers test their stamina over a demanding 2 3/8-mile course over fences. The grass action stays hot on the flat with older turf milers in the $225,000 Kelso Stakes (G3), followed by a flat-out turf rocket sprint in the $200,000 Harvey Pack.
- Backyard Event: Catch the final day of soccer action and score remaining promotional items at the FIFA World Cup 26™ Viewing Party in the Festival Tent.
