When: Wed, Aug 26, 2015 at 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM

The Stone That Started the Ripple, a play dramatizing a modern-day reunion of four suffragists, written by local author Patricia A. Nugent, will be performed on Wednesday, August 26 at 7 p.m. in Filene Hall at Skidmore College. "The Stone that Started the Ripple" is a humorous yet historical representation of a reunion of the women who initiated the crusade for women's right to vote. Using their actual words from the 1800's, Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Sojourner Truth, and Lucretia Mott offer commentary on the status of women's issues today. A cast of five women, directed by Lezlie Dana, brings these important historical figures to life. The one-act play has been performed six times previously to sold-out audiences. It has been updated and expanded by Nugent as the political landscape for women has changed over the years. 2015 is the 95th anniversary of women's suffrage, following the passage of the 19th amendment in 1920. August 26 is National Women's Equality Day, as proposed by Representative Bella Abzug and designated by Congress in 1971, to commemorate the passage of the 19th Amendment. The observance of Women's Equality Day is also intended to call attention to women's continuing struggle for full equality.
