Special Exhibition Event: Toshiko Takaezu
When: Today until Sun, Nov 9, 2014
Where: Skidmore College Saisselin Art Center
Toshiko Takaezu (1922-2011) helped establish ceramics as a fine art medium, challenging the long-held association of pottery with craft and functionality. Moving away from traditional forms, she created closed vessels and spherical pots inspired by natural imagery, both earthly and celestial. Her rounded shapes hide mysterious interiors: some hold small clay pieces that rattle inside, while others have poetry written on their inside walls, never to be seen.
When: Today until Fri, Aug 22, 2014
Where: Skidmore College Saisselin Art Center

Enjoy a very special evening with two artists whose stories intersect at Caffe Lena. Hammond's first show on our stage was in 1963, at the start of a career in acoustic blues that has been marked by one Grammy win and five nominations, eight Blues Music Awards, and induction into the national Blues Hall of Fame. G. Love exploded onto the airwaves in the mid-90s with his blues-infused, old-school pop music. Just months before that he was playing Caffe Lena's open mic and citing Hammond as one of his key inspirations. Tonight we bring the generations together at Saratoga's premiere concert hall, the Helen Ladd at Skidmore's Zankel Music Center, to celebrate the Caffe's 54 years of launching musicians onto the national stage.
